Westminster Cathedral

Westminster Cathedral was really interesting because it was in many ways very similar to the Anglican Cathedrals that we've visited. There is a knave which leads down to a front alter surrounded by smaller chapels in honor of saints; the golden ceiling reminded me of St. Paul's Cathedral, and the alter was likely the inspiration for the panels that were present in Canterbury and Kings College. While more highly decorated than most of the other churches, I found the geometric pastel stained glass refreshing. However, the main decorating difference was the colored marble used throughout. It gave the entire place a sense of rich grandeur that contrasts with the motif of the others we've visited. I must say that I really agree with what was said in class: Westminster Cathedral was a statement to everyone that the Catholic church was back, because they certainly didn't hold back when they were building it.
